Did you know that our closest living primate relatives, - TopicsExpress

Did you know that our closest living primate relatives, chimpanzees and bonobos, have digestive tracts virtually identical to ours... They have much larger canine teeth than we, which might lead us to think that meat is a major part of their diet. But those who have observed them closely say that they eat very little meat. Primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall has pointed out that chimps often go months without eating meat. Meat and insects provide chimpanzees with probably no more than 3% of their calorie intake. And animal products account for no more than 1% of calories for bonobos. But humans are a very different story. Meat, dairy, and egg consumption has zoomed upwardly over the last 70 years, and now accounts for about 30% of our calories. And mortality from heart disease, stroke, and diabetes has risen at a similar pace. ~ Don Robertson
