Did you know that that the EU is also contributing to Arctic research? Projects like StratoClim, SIOS or PAGE21 improve the understanding of the processes and dynamics affecting the size of the Arctic permafrost and their vulnerability to climate change. Ice2sea helps estimate the future contribution of continental ice to sea-level rise and ICE-ARC assesses the impact of change in the Arctic on regional and global scales: economic, social and climatic (sea-ice, ocean, atmosphere, and ecosystem) impacts. Polar research contributes to the EU blue growth strategy which aims to harness the potential of Europe’s oceans, seas and coasts for jobs and growth by supporting sustainable exploitation of marine resources whilst safeguarding biodiversity and protecting the marine environment.
