Did you know that the temple in Jerusalem was for the Yehudim who traveled from a far to get there, this being the reason for the tithe at the designated place Yah chose. The temple and it is there people had to eat and along the way there. One depiction of this travel would be similar to vacation and booking a room, but instead of eating at a restaurant they took food for the journey that they grew themselves. Hence, a feast at the temple which is now destroyed. Of course, people lived near and far so that those who lived far could not take all that. Hence, in this case they sold some of their surplus for money. Also the tithe was for the Levitical Priests who took care of the temple. [Took care of the temple]. Today, there is only one tithe and that is to take care of the poor, that is the fatherless and those without husbands. So where does the money go? Christmas toys? Turkey baskets for the idol? Let me tell you the last thing poor people and their children need is more toys and 1 turkey to eat one day out of the year. Ok two...lets not forget the one for the Christmas ritual.
