Did you know this about GMC? Dr. Jivraj Mehta - the FIRST Chief Minister of Gujarat was a GMCite Dr.Jivraj Mehta, the Founder-Dean of G.S.Medical College & KEM, was a GMCite. Young Jivraj Mehta got admission in GMC after clearing a tough written test and a rigorous viva voce conducted by the British IMS officers. While in GMC, he topped the class in his First Licentiate in Medicine & Surgery (the then equivalent of MBBS) exam. As a GMCite, in his final year exam, he won seven of the eight prizes open to his batch. He also won University gold medal in his M.D. exam in 1914. During his FRCS in London, he was the president of the Indian Students Association. On his return to India, he was the personal physician to Mahatma Gandhi From 1925 to 1942, Dr.Jivraj Mehta serves as the founder-dean of G.S. Medical College and KEM Hospital. Dr.Mehta also serves as the Director General of health services and the Secretary to the Ministry of health. He became the very FIRST Chief Minister of the newly formed Gujarat state in 1960. Later he also served as the Indian high commissioner to the United Kingdom from 1963 to 1966. You-n-me had a privilege to study at GMC. Isnt it a GREAT feeling?
