Did you know..... unpaid deadheading is not against the law? Unpaid work however is. According to federal statutes (in Canada) your federally regulated employer is obliged to ensure that you are paid for your hours of work at least at the minimum wage in your province? For example, if your day consists of only deadheading (for which you only get paid your per diem) and your duty day is 6 hours long from check-in to release time, you (as an Alberta resident for example) must be paid at the rate of $9.95 per hour for 6 hours. How many times have you been deadheaded to a destination and not been paid anything but your per diem? How much money are you owed??? This is against the law, and FAAB/PACT would never bother to tell this to us. An in depth post describing this regulation and your recourse will be posted under the legal topics on our forum, soon.
