Did you receive the first “State of the Corps” email last week? Make sure your contact information is up-to-date at tx.ag/profile Starting this year, the Commandant is sending an overview of the previous school year to all former students, parents, administrators and friends of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. Highlights included details on the Corps posting its highest GPAs (grade point averages) on record for both spring and fall. The year began with the largest Corps since 1970 -- 2,450 cadets, an increase of 600 over just four years ago. Female cadets make up 13% of the Corps. Overall fish attrition for the year was 17% -- the lowest ever. More than 2,550 cadets are expected for Fall 2014. Squadron 4 and the Aggie Band’s C-Company and C-Battery were reactivated. Squadron 11 and Company G-2 will return in August, bringing the total of reactivated units to nine in the past four years. Still the No. 1 producer of military officers outside of the service academies, A&M commissioned a record 103 cadets in May alone -- the highest single commissioning number at Texas A&M in 14 years -- and expects to reach 200 by the end of December. Quad construction: Click here tx.ag/uj2rmc for details on a third dorm renovation and second Leadership Learning Center opened as the Corps moves toward complete renovation of all 12 dorms, four centers and walkways and interior of the Quad in 2017. A University Band/Music Facility and practice field are in planning/funding stages. The largest Corps Trip in years, with more than 2,500 cadets marching through downtown Fort Worth, will be Sept. 27 before the Texas A&M/Arkansas football game in Arlington. More details in the lengthy letter include individual Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine ROTC achievements, Corps sports championships, leadership achievements and a new career internship program. ------------------ A couple of extras -- not from the letter, just as a thank-you to anybody who’s read this far down in our Facebook post :) -- The Corps’ news page: corps.tamu.edu/News/ -- The Commandant also posts news on Facebook: https://facebook/tamucommandant -- And the Corps’ “Summer 2014 Movie Ad” is playing in movie theaters through the July 4th weekend around Houston, DFW, Austin, San Antonio and College Station.
