Did you see him? Did you see him? On Saturday, August 9, 2014, Swami Sankarananda walked into town. Dressed in orange—the color of the sannyasi—one who renounces all ties with family and society and pursues spiritual liberation. He walked, waving and smiling at the cars that passed him along the way. Swamiji started his coast to coast journey for peace in Pasadena, California on January 1, 2014. In the footsteps of the “Peace Pilgrim” who walked for peace for 28 years before she died. He now walks carrying the message of peace literally on his chest and back. The front of his T-shirt reads: Coast 2 Coast Walk for Peace And the back reads: All Paths lead to Compassion Compassion Leads to Peace Peace Leads to Joy Centered in and centered on peace, his T-shirt shares his message with all who encounter him. He stayed with us at Leela Mata’s Peaceful Valley Ashram and Retreat Center in Sligo, Pennsylvania for three days. He inspired us to continue to look within and become peaceful human beings. He walked out of the ashram on Tuesday morning, but not out of our hearts. He passed through Clarion on August 12, 2014. Did you see him? His plan is to arrive in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey in mid September for the 7th annual Peace Pilgrim Celebration—Sept. 20th and 21st—to honor the woman who inspired this part of his journey.
