Did you see the article in the Chronicle on Sunday about coffee prices? Our roaster, John Curry, was quoted as a local expert. One glaring error in the story: of course we buy arabica beans! We just dont buy commodity-grade arabica beans. We buy specialty beans, which are much more expensive because theyre grown at higher elevations and typically are picked by hand instead of being machine-picked. Were keeping a super-close watch on the market - we will hold our prices if at all possible. Were also getting hit with a huge price increase on chopped vanilla bean (its going up from $65 to $90 a pound!!), which we use to make our vanilla syrup. Were researching all the options for alternatives without sacrificing quality.
