#DidYouKnow Stop-motion is an animating technique that dates back to the 1890s! The first recognised stop-motion short film, called The Humpty Dumpty Circus, was made in 1898 by an American named J. Stuart Blackton. Unfortunately, footage from that film has been lost, but another of Blacktons early works, The enchanted drawing has survived, check it out here: youtu.be/pe7HSnZotbU. Although its not strictly stop-motion as we recognise it to be today in films like Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run, Blacktons films are widely acknowledged as the origins of animation. So, how does stop-motion animation work? Find out with help from professional animators at our school holiday workshop for kids aged 8-16, between 8-12 July.
