Diego Costa, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Cristiano Ronaldo all part of list for UEFA Best Player in Europe Award The newly signed Chelsea striker joins others such as Arjen Robben, Thomas Muller, Lionel Messi, and James Rodriguez on the 10-man list for best player. UEFA have announced their ten man list for the Best Player in Europe Award, and there are some names that will obviously be of no surprise to fans. Diego Costa, who was recently unveiled as Chelsea’s newest striker is the only Premier League representative to make it in this elite group. Despite being unable to win the World Cup with Argentina as they were defeated 1-0 by Germany thanks to Mario Gotze’s late goal, Lionel Messi finds himself on the list, as is his international teammate Angel di Maria. Bayern Munich’s German trio of Thomas Muller, Philipp Lahm, and Manuel Neuer all earned themselves spots, as did their Dutch colleague Arjen Robben. Of course, although Portugal didn’t even get out of the group stages, Cristiano Ronaldo still earned his spot after winning this year’s Ballon d’Or and his strong performances with Real Madrid during their domestic and continental campaigns. A new face is Colombia’s star James Rodriguez, who has been linked with a move to more ambitious sides such as Real Madrid away from Monaco, where he moved to from Porto only last season. And although he has now been suspended for biting, new Barcelona signing Luis Suarez still got a nod after his brilliant season with Liverpool that saw him win numerous awards, including the European Golden Shoe.
