Diesel fuel-laced drinking water probably doesnt sound appealing - TopicsExpress

Diesel fuel-laced drinking water probably doesnt sound appealing to anyone. But what if you didnt know it had seeped into your well water until after the fact? How would you be compensated and ensure it didnt happen again? In February 2012, Bill Barrett Corp. fracked a gas well on the West Tavaputs Plateau, injecting 263,570 gallons of fluids into it under extreme pressure. Among the long list of chemicals the company said it was using was diesel, a hydrocarbon no driller should inject underground without a permit because of its potential to contaminate underground drinking water sources. In Utah alone, more than 350 wells were injected with diesel without permits. Now, Environmental Integrity Project attorneys are urging the EPA to hire oil and gas attorneys to follow the laws. Companies that inject diesel without permits should be fined for ignoring the law, said Mary Greene, managing attorney for Environmental Integrity Project. In Utah alone, more than 350 wells were injected with diesel without permits. These guys are literally playing with fire. And public safety. And lawsuits galore. Mike Hancock, an oil and gas attorney in the Eagle Ford Shale region of Texas, and other lawyers like him are well aware of how industry players take shortcuts all the time, like when fracking companies dump their waste on the side of the road instead of properly disposing of it. The EIP insists that companies who see themselves as above the law should be heavily fined, to begin with, but that they may be facing lawsuits from residents injured by toxic groundwater that could cost them millions. #utahgasandoilattorney #utahlawyer
