Difference between the laymen and the scholars is summed up by this very beautiful statement: Al-Hasan said: When fitnah draws near, it is recognised by the scholar; and when it retreats it is known by the ignorant. [Al-Hilyah, (9/24)] Disregarding the ulema and not consulting them led to the genocide of the century we are witnessing today in Syria. Isnt it time we gave the ulema our ear instead of our abuse?
