Dignity for Disability MLC Kelly Vincent was there this morning supporting the victims family when an access cab driver was found guilty of indecently assaulting a 24 year old woman with profound intellectual disability who has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and cannot talk. Sentencing will be on February 28th. While this sends an important message to the community that abusing people with disabilities is not acceptable, it also highlights again the deficiencies in our justice system that must be reformed. We need broader types of evidence to be admissable, and the ability for intermediaries to be accepted into our court rooms as interpreters. - Team Kelly Vincent.
