Digvijay Singh on Monday took his Twitter rants to a new level by linking the Bodh Gaya blasts to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s address to Bihar BJP workers and his close aide Amit Shah’s promise to build a Ram temple in Ayodhya. Modi had on Saturday, during a tele-conference, challenged Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for “betraying” the BJP and said the state would teach its CM a “lesson”. Digvijay in his tweet asked if there was a hidden link between the BJP leaders comments and the blasts in Bihar. His tweets had the Congress scurrying for cover with a request to all, including its own leader, to wait for the probe report before pointing fingers. A red-faced Congress not only distanced itself from the controversial tweets of Digvijay, but it also said, there should no “kite-flying” on the issue. Congress spokesperson Bhakta Charan Das said, “the Congress party believes there should be no kite flying on such a grave incident.” Adding a note of caution, which appears to be directed as much to Digvijay as it was to the Opposition, the Congress spokesperson said that “the state government is conducting a probe and so is the NIA, the truth will come out. So no one should jump the gun and reach conclusions in advance.” However in an attempt to defend Digvijay, Das added that the media and Opposition should see his tweets in the right context. “Still, we would like to add that there should be no finger pointing at any individual or any agency before the investigation by the NIA and the state government is over,” Das added, in a balancing act. Earlier in the day, BJP termed Digvijay’s statements as “laughable and absurd”. BJP general secretary Rajiv Pratap Rudy took a jibe at the Congress leader, who is known to put his foot in his mouth, and said that if Digvijay could call Osama bin Laden as Osamaji, then there is nothing new in this comment. Another BJP leader Prakash Javadekar said Digvijay’s statement showed “mental bankruptcy”. Even UPA supporter Samajwadi Party joined in to target Digvijay.
