Dilruba and I - In a Conversation Janab Daud Khan Sadozai wanted to see how the Dilruba sounded and I picked it up not knowing what was in store. I ended up playing an alapa - raga composition of mine and couple of expressions (ik-do khayal). There is melancholy (Virha - Vairag) but there is Shringar too - there is celebration, there is dance, there is a conversation —not sure if it is a dream or a nightmare. A dream set in a time utterly impossible to live in - the pain, the suffering, the tears, the wailing - the dead end - the fear of being woken up from the balmy dream: remembrance - a reminiscence of those heavenly times —that Anand, that bliss; A nightmare! Set in heaven, engulfed in love so wondrous but then, a nightmare - Yaar-Mutiyaar and his/her betrayal... Or is it just a story telling? Someones? Or is the storyteller sharing a page from an autobiography? For sure it is not fiction! Whatever it is, howsoever it is - I am sharing it with you with the hope it will touch a note or two within you... Does it mourn one dead? Or regrets an association? Or instead, represent hope —a rebirth? Priyanka A. Singh and Daud Khan Sadozai kindly bore witness to this conversation of mine.
