Dining or Bathing, You Can Still Watch TV Admit it. You love to watch primetime TV while scarfing down dinner. Who doesn’t? So why not embrace the inevitable and make TV dinners a bit more civilized by bringing a small screen into your dining room? Before you scoff, just think about it. You can either hover a plate of spaghetti over your lap on the couch while watching the World Series or you can sit at a table and eat like mom taught you to eat. But how do you introduce a TV to the table without turning your dining room into a sports bar? Kelly Giesen, a Manhattan-based interior designer, shares her solution to the dinner-and-a-movie scenario. Ms. Giesen placed a small flatscreen to the right of her dining room window. She built a space in the wall to hide her cable box. “Both cable box and TV are plugged in to a Next Generation infrared sensor,” Ms. Giesen said. This allows her to change channels on the cable box even though it’s hidden from sight. When she isn’t eating while watching, Ms. Geisen hides her flatscreen TV using oversized curtains she tailored for the window next to her TV. Ms. Giesen did a similar hide-and-seek TV in her bathroom as well. “I alwayshave a TV in the bathroom as that one gets a ton of use,” she said. Ms. Giesen recessed her TV behind a column in her bathroom. The flatscreen sits on a swing arm, so she can easily pull it forward while getting ready. When swung out, “the TV reflects in the mirror so you can watch it and yourself as you get ready. The cable box is in the kitchen but the infrared goes through the wall.”
