Dinner wirh PNG RUBBER GURU, Chew Boo. I was priveleged to meet and have dinner with him last night at Weigh Inn. He left PNG in July last year after 20 plus years begining at Cape Rodney and ending with NFRL. He is largely responsible for the rubber development in Western Province with off course Warren Dutton and NFRL team, PNGSDP, OK TEDI, OTDF and FRPG. He returned to attend the NFRL AGM this Wednesday. I was light heartened a bit to hear that MV Kuku will be making a trip to Suki and Balimo soon to recommence buying rubber. The world rubber price is rock bottom now. In Central Province cup lump is bought at 50t per kg whilst in WP, Kiunga farmers are been paid K1.20 and farmers in Lake Murray, Suki, Balimo (Middle Fly) will receive K1 per kg. This is simply because of stringent mamagement by NFRL there are able to have resrves in the account hence WP farmers are been blessed. Am also pleased to note that OK TEDI will continue with fuel supply to MV KUKU to make trips to Middle and partly South Fly to buy rubber. I am sure they will also maintain the freight of rubber export. I do hope the court battle for the CMCA & Non CMCA development funds can be resolved sooner so that FRPG can also contribute to the rubber development of the province.
