Director, Family and Community Engagement— East Los Angeles California Charter Schools Association - Los Angeles, CA Title: Director, Family and Community Engagement— East Los Angeles Reports to: Lead Director, Family and Community Engagement Location: Los Angeles office; focus on East Los Angeles or other geographical areas as assigned THE OPPORTUNITY As the Director, Family and Community Engagement— East Los Angeles, you are responsible for developing and managing relationships with charter school parents and school leaders, teaching parents how to successfully organize around schoolbased and electoral issues, and being accountable for tracking and achieving data-driven goals. You will be implementing a parent and community engagement campaign focused on charter-related issues that are relevant to each schools community and that are aligned with the California Charter School Associations advocacy and electoral priorities. Accordingly, you must be passionate about the educational reform movement and the power of charter schools to provide an excellent education to students and high-quality choices for parents. You must have experience cultivating and sustaining relationships in the context of community organizing. You must be bilingual in Spanish and English. You should have exceptional personal responsibility for achieving ambitious goals. You know how to get results through others, think about solutions rather than problems, and thrive off the chance to build a movement for educational reform and charter schools. You want to be part of a movement to educate, empower, and mobilize charter school families to use their voice and power to hold local and state-level elected leaders accountable for treating charter school students equitably and to increase the number of high quality educational options for families. The Director, Family and Community Engagement— East Los Angeles is a member of the Statewide Advocacy—Los Angeles regional team, and will report to the Lead Director, Family and Community Engagement and will receive ongoing organizing support from the statewide Field Director. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Organizing and Relationship Building: Develop and execute an organizing plan with measurable goals and key benchmarks; Recruit a core group of charter school parents and families to mobilize on local community issues, school board advocacy and election issues, as well as to act as champions for charter schools and the charter movement Parent Leadership Development: Develop and maintain effective school-based parent networks through continuous recruitment, leadership training, and support of charter school parents Communication: Effectively communicate with parents in assigned geographical areas through one on one meetings, school/house meetings, flyers, newsletters, phone calls, mailings, and social media; Be strategic and knowledgeable in communicating to a variety of audiences in a timely, succinct, and effective manner Data-driven Goals: Manage contact information and outreach data through various customer relationship management software and database management systems on a daily and weekly basis; Take personal responsibility for ensuring data is accurate and being accountable for meeting input and output goals grounded in data Issue Campaigns: Identify significant school-based issues and develop strategies and tactics to effectively address the issues including trainings, advocacy events, speaking at LAUSD board meetings, and rallies to strengthen existing charter schools, support issue advocacy initiatives, and to secure policy wins on behalf of charter schools and CCSA; Engage community leaders and organizations on charter school issues and initiatives Legislative and Electoral Campaigns: Develop and execute voter education and mobilization plans for targeted campaigns, in conjunction with CCSA Advocates; Recruit parents to participate in legislative and electoral campaign activities, including lobbying, phone banking, letter writing, door-to-door canvassing, and other activities QUALIFICATIONS 2-5 years prior experience in parent organizing, community organizing, and/or political organizing o We are looking for individuals who are committed to strengthening and protecting charter schools through collective actions of parents, community organizations, and legislative and political activity Passion for or strong familiarity with public education, specifically the California public school system, education reform initiatives, and LAUSD Ability to be relentless when faced with challenges Proven time management skills to prioritize in a fluid, fast-paced environment, with demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and goals Willingness to work varied hours, including occasional weeknights and weekends Must possesses a valid California drivers license, insurance, and a car for business use An active parent of a charter school student is highly desirable Bachelors degree preferred Must be fluent in Spanish idealist.org - 12 hours ago California Charter Schools Association 2 reviews
