Experience: Three years minimum managerial experience in the health sector, preferably in the public health services and/or health programmes in the state or NGO environment. Inherent requirements of the job: Valid driver’s licence. Ability to travel to the districts and nationally if required. Competencies (knowledge/skills): Computer literacy. Strong leadership, managerial, organisational, strategic, interpersonal, operational and contingency planning skills. Independent decision-making and problem solving skills. Extensive knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations, national and provincial policies. Extensive knowledge of health service delivery systems. Extensive knowledge of priority health programmes. Ability to work well with other role players inside and external to the Department. Duties (key result areas/outputs): Ensure the development and implementation of disease surveillance programmes. Manage the health services research within the department. Determine the effectiveness of Health Programmes and Services. Co-ordinate, support and monitor the quality of health care. Ensure generic functions (FM, HRM, SCM, LR, HRD). Note: The person appointed to this position will be subject to security clearance and the signing of a performance agreement and an employment contract. Applicants may be subjected to a competence assessment test. Purpose: This is a senior management position in the Department primarily involving the following: To lead the HIA Directorate to establish systems and processes to measure the impact of interventions on the burden of disease and establish policies and processes for quality improvement of health services.
