Director for Al Mawred Al Thaqafy Culture Resource (Al Mawred Al Thaqafy), founded in 2004, is one of the largest independent cultural organisations in the Arab region. It works in three main areas: to support artists, creative writers and emergent cultural organisations in the Arab region; to improve cultural working conditions politically, legislatively and economically; and to present and promote important innovative creative works to the Arab public. In the nine years since Culture Resource was founded, its current director has worked with the organizations members, which now number 30 from 13 Arab countries, and with its elected Artistic Board to broaden the scope of beneficiaries from Al Mawreds services and to respond effectively to the social and political changes in the region. As a result of the organizations work during these years, the number beneficiaries from its services has expanded to 700 artists, writers and cultural managers, not to mention the hundreds of thousands of audience members who attended the concerts, theatrical performances and other cultural events it has helped to organise. Today, Culture Resource stands as one of the most successful experiments in civil society work in culture in the region and has earned great appreciation and esteem in the region and internationally. The director of Culture Resource works under the supervision of the elected Artistic Board and in close cooperation with the organizations members in Egypt and other countries in the region. He/she directly supervises the organizations staff which currently consists of 25 full-time employees who work in the organisations head office in Cairo. The main responsibilities of the post of director are: To design the organizations programmes with the assistance of the staff and the approval of the Artistic Board, to supervise the implementation of these programmes, and to set the criteria for their regular evaluation, revision and reassessment. To ensure the existence of the necessary financial resources for the organizations work, to prepare the annual budgets and to present these to the Artistic Board and General Assembly for approval. To represent the organization legally, in the media and before the general public in the Arab region and internationally. To manage the day-to-day work in the organisation and supervise the staff. The candidate for the post of Director of Culture Resource must be a cultural manager with no less than ten years of experience in directing major cultural organisations or projects, who enjoys a good regional and international repute as a cultural manager or cultural activist, and possesses an excellent ability to communicate and interact with peoples of different cultures and diverse backgrounds. As the new Culture Resource Director will inherit a strong and successful organisation, she/he must work to safeguard its reputation and its relations with other organisations and with its beneficiaries, and he/she must consider him/herself as part of a team that includes all the staff of the organisation and its members in the Arab region. Candidates for the post of Director will also be expected to formulate their own vision for how to develop the organizations programmes, expand the range of beneficiaries from its services, and increase awareness of the organizations work regionally and internationally. In addition, potential candidates must have outstanding and demonstrable administrative skills in fundraising, financial planning, personnel management, and follow-through and evaluation processes. The candidate selected for the post will initially work as a consultant to the organization for a period of six months, beginning in March 2014. Then she/he will begin work as the director in August of that year, before the departure of the current director in September 2014. The overlap is intended to ensure a smooth transition. The directors work premises will be the office of Culture Resource in Cairo. Salary and other benefits will be determined on the basis of qualifications and expertise.
