Director of Administrative Services & Human Resources The Western Piedmont Council of Governments (WPCOG) is currently seeking energetic, self-motivated, and forward-thinking candidates for the position of Director of Administrative Services and Human Resources (Director). The WPCOG is an innovative and forward-thinking organization dedicated to addressing planning, economic & community development, workforce development, aging, GIS, housing, and other significant issues for the region employing 50 persons. Situated in the beautiful rolling hills and mountains of western North Carolina, with ample opportunities for recreation, shopping and dining abounding in the region, makes the area an ideal place to call home. The region contains a population of about 365,000 in Alexander, Burke, Caldwell and Catawba counties with 28 local governments. The region contains great natural resources from the slopes of Grandfather Mountain to five major lakes along the Catawba River. The Director is responsible for administrative and human resources functions within the WPCOG and supervises three full-time employees. The Director manages: a budget of $2,065,000, human resources functions for the WPCOG, two administrative staff and the communications specialist, assigned special projects, administrative services for the Board and Executive Director, and pay plan studies and executive searches for local governments. The successful candidate must be well organized, excellent in building and maintaining relationships and an advocate for WPCOG services to local governments. The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter, who continually seeks to improve and expand services. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation with a bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree a plus) in public administration, business administration or a related field with 3 to 5 years’ experience within the field preferred. The salary is dependent on qualifications, and a full benefits package is provided. The WPCOG participates in the N.C. Local Government Retirement System.
