Director of Christian Education (part-time) with Messiah Lutheran Church in Lyndhurst, Ohio The Director of Christian Education will help our young people make connections to God, our church family, and our world. Accountability: The Director of Christian Education will be accountable to the pastor, and the church council. There will be weekly meetings with the Pastor and monthly reports to the Church Council. Specific Responsibilities: A. Sunday School (September – May) • Operate as Sunday School Superintendent • Work closely with the Assistant Sunday School Superintendent. • Recruit, train, and oversee Sunday School Teachers. • Maintain class lists, classroom supplies and curriculum. • Encourage parental involvement with the Sunday School program. • Be present every Sunday except for days off. B. Director of Vacation Bible School (one week a year, in the summer) • Plan, organize and lead VBS. C. Youth Group leadership • Organize activities for youth (at least one activity per month). • Facilitate youth trips to regional and national ELCA youth gatherings. D. Worship participation • Organize children’s Easter and Christmas programs. • Organize Youth participation Sunday once a month. • Actively attend worship at Messiah. E. Community relations • Work to find new ways to help our youth become more active in our community. Time: • The position is part time. Approximately 20 hours a week. • Regular office hours are expected during the week. • Attendance at scheduled youth events, staff meetings and other meetings is expected. Evaluation: • There will be a 3 month provisional period. An evaluation with the pastor will occur at this time. • At 6 Months there will be a performance evaluation with the Church Council. • There will be annual reviews of performance at the end of each Sunday school year. Qualifications: The qualities we are seeking in the Director of Christian Education at Messiah Lutheran Church are: • A passion for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. • A willingness to participate in the life of our congregation. • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with children effectively • The ability to think creatively. • Strong organizational skills. • Experience working with children and youth.
