Directors, Maureen Gelchion and Anthony Corso, each year give out have given out full year and half year dance scholarships to provide eager students with the chance to take additional dance lessons at the Astoria Dance Centre. This year, the essay contest was extended to dancers age 10 and up. The students who participated were asked to write a short essay expressing what dance means to them. Every essay submitted was reviewed by numerous faculty and staff, and voted on as such. The personalized essays had an evident abundance of emotion and true passion for the art of dance. After a few weeks, the voting came to a close and the results of the essay contest were as follows: Mariana Franco, 15, Astoria, NY-recipient of a full year scholarship Anthony Alvarez, 17, East Elmhurst, NY - recipient of a half year scholarship Kyla Perez, 14, Astoria, NY - recipient of a half year scholarship Congratulations to these dancers!
