Disaster Strikes . . . Government Will Make You Whole? One year - TopicsExpress

Disaster Strikes . . . Government Will Make You Whole? One year ago today, Hurricane Sandy landed on the eastern shores of New Jersey and New York. Today, thousands of residents are still waiting for payouts from their insurance companies or some sort of financial aid from the federal government, in order to help rebuild their homes and get their lives back on track. Part of the delay was Congress’ approval of emergency relief funding in 92 days (versus 17 days after Hurricane Katrina). And due to abuses identified in the relief programs after Katrina, doling out the money is now more difficult with added regulations and reporting. However, they did manage to disperse around $65 million in disaster aid for television commercials in the state of New York and New Jersey. To be fair, in the past, HUD disaster aid did pay for commercials following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The ads were aired to promote tourism to the areas as part of the rebuilding process. So, if you won’t prepare for the unexpected®, just wait for the government to save you.
