Disciples have a Continuing Faith/ Daily Devotional Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me (Luke 9:23). Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours (Mark 11:24). Over the past week we have realized that it is time that you and I stop playing church and start being the church. We have discussed the fact everyone born again through the blood of the Savior Jesus Christ is the church. We also said that as the church that we must grow in our faith. In other words, if we are His our faith must grow. “By their fruit you will know” so there is no way that our faith won’t continue to grow. Who does God intend that we grow into? His image and become His disciples. We must move beyond simply believing to becoming and being His disciples and therefore actually living the abundant life He calls us to live. A true disciple is always willing to know Him better and follow Him more every day. Therefore a true disciple will always seek Him first and abide His word. A true disciple will be disciplined for godliness, will be a committed and faithful lifetime learners, and a disciple has a wholehearted faith. A disciple is sold out and all in for Jesus. They have counted the cost and leave behind anything that may keep them from following Him with all their heart. In our verses today we find that a true disciple has a continuing faith. It is not that a disciple never struggles with faith, but that a disciple knows the Author and Finisher of faith so well that they continue on with Him allowing God to transform the struggle into a stronger faith. Jesus said “whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves.” It takes focusing on Him to deny ourselves. As we learned in our lessons on prayer everything begins with prayer and every prayer begins with praise. Our focus must remain on God so that we have the strength, wisdom, and understanding to continue ion the faith pressing on toward the prize of knowing Him. So a true disciple’s continuing faith leads them to continue in prayer. A continuing faith is a reciprocal faith. It begins with Him and ends with Him. Yes disciple fall and falter, but they always keep their eyes on the master and move toward Him in faith because they know “whatever they ask for in prayer while continuing in faith it will be theirs.” A disciple is not self-seeking, but instead trusts the Lord for His provision. Because they realize He alone is sufficient. They know that God is always faithful, just, and know exactly what is truly needed. A disciple has a continuing faith that leads them to deny themselves and put to death anything that may keep them from continuing on after Jesus. Do you have a continuing faith? It is true that a continuing faith isn’t what is necessary for salvation, but it is necessary to be a disciple, to live the abundant life He gives, and to become disciple makers. Will you continue on in the faith today, no matter what comes your way?
