Discipleship Series; 04 March, 2014 2 Kings 4:2, And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil. This widow went lamented to Prophet Elisha, explaining her situation to him, but did you notice the prophet’s first statement to the woman; ‘what shall I do for you?’ One may be dismissive of his statement and may even wonder and think the question to be nonsensical in some way. Our Lord Christ Jesus used the same pattern in dealing with blind Bartimaeus when He asked him; “Mark 10:51, … What do you want Me to do for you?. The question is very necessary and relevant, because the widow as well as Bartimaeus may have something else in mind other than what God had in store and planned for them. The woman might have wanted a loan, debt pardon or more time to be able to struggle to get money to pay back the debt. Have you ever wondered why it is written in the Bible; John 16:24, Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full, considering that it is declared that God knows the thinking and intentions of our hearts. Psalm 139:2, Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. God expects us to ask and He will as He has promised exceed our expectations; Ephesians 3:20, Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. Beloved, God is asking you today, ‘what do you want Him to do for you?’ Prayer: Great Provider! Give me what You have planned for me not what I want, in Jesus’ name.
