Discipline and Sustainable Development: Following Prince - TopicsExpress

Discipline and Sustainable Development: Following Prince Ezeanyika’s story on his experience at Umuaka while on his way to his village, one may argue that in a country where rules and regulations are well spelt out, we may assume that there is no problem; but the implementation of those rules and regulations demands proper co-ordination and total co-operation. Thus, in sustainable development as Ezeanyika rightly mentioned, it is a two way issue that must be married with mutual understanding and mutual co-operation: The RULER AND THE RULED must co-operate, must work hand in hand to achieve maximum result. The Ruler known as the Leaders are expected to lead by example, Yes; however, the Ruled, which normally has two groups – the poor, where majority of the working class people and less privilege people belong; and the rich, where few privilege members of our society belong, must be disciplined within themselves to suggest that the problem is entirely with the leaders, as both the poor and the rich are tax-payers. This includes the Police, the Road Traffic warders, the ordinary road users, Secretaries of Govt. Offices and Private offices, Officers at the Check Points, the Market Sellers, Local Govt. workers, Car Park attendant or workers, University and College staff, Voters who charge fees to vote and other unmentioned actors must form part of this DISCIPLINE if there must be sustainable development, so as to prevent the repetition of what Ezeanyika experienced, remember, bad road or delay whilst on journey is a daily occurrence for many who may not write. The question is whether the ruled is ready to obey the dictates of the state on one hand, on the other hand, is whether the Rulers are ready to give account of their stewardship? To me, the answer seems to be far complicated, because the more one may think that the problem is detached completely from the masses, the clearer it seems to be that the masses are part of this complication. This I belief may always hinder sustainable development within our societies as disciple is needed in order to propel growth and progress of our people but particles of corruption has built a comfortable bed in the minds of our people. So, If 2013 will be a wakeup call for DISCIPLINE, that will be perfect, by this, I wish you all HAPPY NEW YEAR in few hours time. Written by Cyril Eluma.
