Disclaimer: A farmer is about to have a little whinge. Because they are the only people in society that whinge! Sorry to my wonderful kids and husband💗 You know how it is. 😜😜😜 I would save you all the drama but I cant fit into 140 characters. I am dumping and running 😜😜😜 @FarmersOfTheUK on twitter is an account that different farmers get to tell their story. The weekly farmer tweeted this https://twitter/farmersoftheuk/status/549649168407736320 Then a reply come....... https://twitter/coleman_21/status/549652147491831808 So apparently farmers need to be positive. Yes, that is correct. Positivity is good. No one wants to hang around negativity. But everybody has a little whinge.....a public servant, no matter which department will have a little whinge. The shopkeeper will have a little whinge, the baker can also have a little whinge, the poor old butcher can have a little whinge, teacher will a tiny whinge. But if a farmer has a whinge,oh no! whinging bloody farmer. So keeping with the norm..... Here is my whinge. We took on farming part time in 1999. I was doing a couple of part time jobs and Gary was in the local council. He decided to do farming full time in 2003? I had to learn to live and work with my comedic husband. It is a wonderful opportunity to grow food and work with my husband. It is a hard game and sometimes not very kind to your bank balance. During 2006 we had limited water and sold our house and moved Joshua (14) and Ben (5) into a one room shed. We could not borrow money to build a house because of our sporadic income. In January of 2007 we had the chance to do a market with Gary sister as Gary dad was retiring. We took this opportunity as we could grow a little bit with trickle tape and source the rest of the produce locally. This was met with great angst from a fellow stall holder and we were tormented, taunted and criticised weekly. Every week. That part was hard enough and stressful. To do markets, you do need to do a lot of preparation and spend a whole day away from farm work. We did all the work ourselves. Sometimes Garys dad would help, my mum and dad would help and kids chipped in. Tara helping at most markets. As soon as bore replenished we opted out of the market game. It was an awful time for us. We spent 2 years in shed. Throwing a positive into this doom and gloom...I only had one room to clean. No floors to mop, as you only had walk ways around beds, cupboards and lounges. I would share a picture, but no. In 2010 we endured a lot of rainfall and lost all of our crops at the same time Ben was bitten on the face by our dog. We kept him home for 7 months,so his face could repair. During this time our savings had diminished. A flood came in 2011 and we lost everything in the ground. So you had crops just planted to picking stage. Same again in 2012 and 2013. We are now operating on limited water. We have transitioned to trickle tape. Save on water and limits disease. You get asked by many, why do you do it? I dont know! You cant do anything to prepare for these events. And so many people criticise the farmer for being a whinger. Stay positive! They say! Get out! They say! There is always a debate around why should the farmer get help and around government help but that is not my whinge today. We farmers are all competing for an income and even farmers are not always kind to other farmers for that reason. So if farmers are not kind to other farmers, it is a bit hard to expect the rest of the population to be kind to us. And on that note..... Here is my 😊 youtu.be/7uUkyjFHibk
