Disclaimer: I have no problem with essential oils, and actually - TopicsExpress

Disclaimer: I have no problem with essential oils, and actually think they can be great for many simple ailments. However, I have heard several people claim the oils can cure cancer, parkinsons, seizures, burns, ebola, and diabetes. I have had heard that lemon drops are as potent as a morphine derivative for pain and to give peppermint to your infant for fevers. This is not only UNTRUE but can be HARMFUL, especially when experiementing on young children. In my line of work at the hospital, I have seen oil injestions cause serious harm, and topical oils used inappropriately cause burns and skin damage. Products such as these cant be the answer to all ailments, just like prescription medications should not be the only solution when looking for treatments. It is also against the law to claim that such products can cure or prevent disease. The law... ...if a dietary supplement label includes such a claim, it must state in a disclaimer that FDA has not evaluated this claim. The disclaimer must also state that this product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease, because only a drug can legally make such a claim. The only reason a drug can make that claim is if has scientific evidence to back it up, and has met VERY RIGOROUS safety requirements AND publishes any& all possible harmful effects. Oils and other health supplements do NOT have the backing of the FDA, and are not held to the same stringent requirements. Oil & nutritional supplements frequently make claims that they are all natural and cause no side effects. Luckily, most of my friends that distribute these products are quite balanced in their approach to use them as complimentary therapies, and know when to seek proper medical opinions. I am glad that these companies are being called out on their misleading marketing. It will make the products safer and keep the consumers safe as well. Last thought: These are MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR COMPANIES!! People can get so frustrated about BIG DRUG COMPANIES, and that they are just out to make money. Business is business, and MLM companies are out to make people rich too! I think both industries need to focus on the most important fact...the safety and well-being of the customer/consumer/patient. When dollar signs are all you see...your motivation makes me nervous!!
