Disclaimer: This post is not intended to condone sin but to shed light on how to identify whether one is or not in your life All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything. 1 Cor. 6:12 ESV Is drinking a sin? Is smoking a sin? Is gambling a sin? Is looking at a pretty woman a sin? Is not looking both ways before crossing the road a sin? Is wearing a skimpy bikini a sin? Is wearing shorts a sin? Is listening to any music besides Christian music a sin? Theres plenty out there that we can discuss and debate back and forth! All to often we ask the question, is this a sin? That shouldnt be the question but more important the question should be, is it helpful to me and does it glorify God? Am I controlled by it? Am I causing someone else to stumble? Each one of us has a different realtionship with God and he gives each one of us different boundries. I chose the most common questions above to shake the "religious" crowd because they are shouting from the rooftops a resounding YES ITS A SIN and YOU GOING TO HELL at this point......I have been there and shouted with them. Didnt get the tshirt because that was a sin too. (Just kidding) But as I continue to grow in my faith, "Which continues to grow till the day I die", I realize that we "Christians" want grace but have trouble extending it to others when their actions dont compare to ours. God extends grace to each and everyone of us. So to give a flat "yes" answer to all the above would be completely wrong. Although todays culture would say "no its not a sin" to the above sin questions, each one of them should be delt with individually through prayer, meditation, studying, seeking Christian direction, and guidance from the Holy Spirit on an individual basis. I know some of my Christian friends are reading this thinking, I dont agree! Thats fine, and Im good with that and I still love you! We should treat others, even those who sin, with love and not condemnation nor ridicule because we all fall short. Let us use our bodies as his temple and disciple people by the way we live our lives and not by our many words we say. That my friends will be how people know we are true disciples of Christ.
