Discovery Scripture Have you comprehended the expanse of the earth? Declare, if you know all this. Job 38:18 Observation I enjoy science. I love the incredible sense of curiosity that drives us as human beings. And we do very well in this regard, as, I think, we were intended to. But even science is a faith enterprise, though not many admit it. Much of what we think we know is based on assumptions. These assumptions are necessary and well deduced, but assumptions nonetheless. Often we use a best guess policy. If asked the questions in this verse can we truthfully and accurately answer? We would like to think so, but in truth it would just be our best guess. Science is just as much about faith as any religion today. Only the very arrogant would disagree. Application I say, study the sciences, make the most of the great thinkers and the incredible discoveries, but be careful what you label fact. So often, todays fact is tomorrows assumption or misunderstanding. We lack complete knowledge and cannot then claim it. Seek, speculate and discuss, its what we were equipped to do. Prayer Lord, help me to be discerning, and help me to be inquisitive. There is so much that I do not know and so much yet to be discovered. Be my guide.
