Discrimination In Florissant Ive always been one who spoke very highly of Florissant but for the last few months Ive been dealing with outright prejudices concerning me having my events for my teens. I attended a city council meeting about 2 months ago, where I spoke at the televised city council meeting and all seemed very hopeful. I was even called out into the hallway by the mayor Tom Schneider, he stated to me that I could use one of about three rooms to host my teen event since they couldnt give me any funds. He also recommended that I get on the youth advisory board and assist them with their events. I tried to take the mayor up on his offer and use a room but when I reserved it, I got a call from the mayor stating that there was a misinformation and he didnt say that I could use it for free. I stated to him exactly what he said but he denied it and again suggested that I join the citys youth advisory board. I then ask how much it would cost and he said he didnt know but I would have to have my 5013c, I told him I did but still no news from him or is staff on when I could reserve a room. I had spoken with one of his people on the youth advisory board when it 1st was suggested but when I received the call from the mayor changing his words to help me, I stated to her why I would not be joining. They want me to work on their stuff but not on my own teen events with my foundation. After that call to the youth advisory member, I received another call from the mayor of Florissant and he was worried that I wouldnt be upset with him for what I might say to anyone or the citys reputation. He then stated that from now on that we email and that I not give up on them and how I should make another attempt to use a room for one of my events...well guess what I did a few days later and was given the run around again from now one of his workers, that happens to be in charge of bookings.. 1. I was asked what kind of music I was going to be playing 2. What I was going to be using the money raised for 3.The ages of the teens..and they even told me that there was not anything available until January. When questioned them again, there was suddenly available dates... I have to keep repeating all of the same answers to just be able to have a teen event - I was even told by the Mayor Tom Schneider and by the supervisor of booking the facility Cheryl Thompson that they dont want to work with kids over 8th grade. They keep reminding me of all the wonderful events that they hold and that is not my market or my interest. They are avoiding my questions, bookings and truth!! When the situation happened with Mike Brown, I called the mayors office and called to let them know that I wanted to host a event for teens and I was given use if the skating rink to do so. I held an 8 hour party for the youth that had kids of all ages and colors, there was not one single problem and the mayor of Florissant called the News Station so they would come and he could look good in the public eye but I already had a station that came on their own. The mayor didnt even show up but the mayor of Ferguson did and also helped wit supplys. I sent 2 emails and got no reply when I challenged the more than normal questions and I didnt get an reply until I sent a carbon copy to Claire McCaskills office and guess what they still did not address my issue of simply trying to book a room for my teens. I keep getting told their history and now how they dont want to compromise their trust in the parents...Im a parent of Florissant for 12 years and the only one to ever step up for my youth that theyre not reaching. Plus I have over 20 years experience with military and civilian youth that they were told many times about. I keep getting told of how they serve the youth but this isnt about them...I didnt ask about their history, I asked to reserve a room in the community that I live in. Florissant is just as bad as the way that people see Ferguson. They dont even have one single black person on their council board nor do they want to work with anyone of color because its out of their norm. I havent gotten any help at all from the residents or the business community no matter how much Ive begged for almost a year. Ive tried for so long not to say anything but it must be said! I service and welcome children of all colors but the Mayor of Florissant is not trying to work with me at all and neither is the city...Ive had a total of 3 white women support my foundation, everyone else came from other areas including a member of the Ferguson council member named Dwayne T James , Dee Ree Darnell Taylor and a family member Willie L Moore III. Worst part is that I have been in contact with the mayors office telling them my plans since November and now that I want to actually do my mission, they are giving me the run around and in the worst way. I got another email today and still no news of me booking a room. In case youre wondering I had to book my teen party in Dellwood because of the run around from the Mayor of Florissant. I had no problem booking an event with an area I dont even pay taxes in. I didnt even have to talk to a mayor to book a room. Why would you ever need the mayors approval to simply book a room?? When youre black and live in Florissant! Im not being treated fairly or equally at all, you would think that I would be welcomed to do this job with my foundation since the kids are suppose to be our first interest. I need parents or anyone at all to please voice their concern for me being allowed to work these teens. I dont want to give up on them or on my foundation!! Call the Mayor of Florissant office at (314) 839-7601 - let him know that you support me working with the youth in that area, even if you dont live in the city.. P.S. also the day that Michael Brown was killed , my organization was giving out full school supply kits to 200 families so I know Im an asset to the community and my mayor or city gave away nothing to these families!!!
