Diseases in Bat Graduate Opportunity – Canada Graduate program - TopicsExpress

Diseases in Bat Graduate Opportunity – Canada Graduate program (MSc, PhD) in Veterinary Pathology and Microbiology Bats appear to be exquisitely sensitive to the fungus that causes white nose syndrome and which threatens to drive several North American bat species to extinction. Yet most viruses cause relatively benign infections in bats while being lethal to man and other animals. Our objective is to determine how bats respond so differently to these pathogens. We are looking for bright young scientists to pursue research leading to MSc or PhD degrees in the area of the response of bats to fungal and viral pathogens. The student, if they choose, can also obtain ACVP board-eligible training in diagnostic pathology, specializing in wildlife diseases. The student will also have an opportunity to enrol in an exciting new international, interdisciplinary training program in infectious disease and public policy.
