Displaced Persons soundtrack, part 26: 1969 (pg. 69-70). As Ive said, the relationship between Gar and Davy is central to the entire book, and as I imply earlier, they view each other as brothers. I cant help, though, thinking of it as a love story, and as the old men stroll on the beach in this scene, I want to hear a love song—and with perhaps an overdose of irony, I offer Je TAime…Moi Non Plus, the quivery orgasmic duet by Serge Gansbourg and Jane Birkin. The couple in the song manages to discuss the futility of physical love while in the middle of the act. I suspect Gar and Davy are a more harmonious couple precisely because its not a subject that ever comes up for them.
