Distracted Driving Is Deadly Texting while driving is downright dangerous. Teens who say their parents drive distracted are more likely to do so themelves. In a recent study by Students Against Destructive Decisions and Liberty Mutual, 66 percent of teens surveyed said that their parents texted, talked on the phone, or participated in another distracting activity while driving. Here are 3 things you need to know about texting and driving: Federal estimates suggest that distraction contributes to 16% of all fatal crashes, leading to around 5,000 deaths every year. Those texting are 23 times more likely to get into an accident. 18% of fatalities from distraction-related accidents are caused by cell phones.
