Distractions Sep 17 The devil loves to set us up to be upset. Think about this, you sit down to read God’s word, listen to music, pray, and all of a sudden, the phone rings, someone knocks on the door, etc…There are so many distractions that he throws at us and causes, but that doesn’t mean we have to react in a wrong way to them. We can choose to not answer the phone or anything else that is trying to steal our time with God. Now of course, if your children need you or someone else needs you, you need to go to them. You may be in a good mood, go to take something off of a shelf, and have things on it fall on you and the floor. We have a choice to get angry and yell or whatever it is we feel like, or we can ignore it for awhile, tell the devil that we are not impressed, or pick it up and finish what we were doing. It’s not going anywhere and getting upset will not change what happened. The enemy will also work through others to distract you, to hurt you and offend you. I have this happen quite a bit, but now I go in my room, turn on my music, and praise and thank the Lord:) If the enemy can cause you to say what he puts in your mind, he is happy. No matter what happens or how we think or feel, we need to speak God’s word and not what the enemy puts into our minds. When we are upset, most of us don’t stop and think about what to say, we just say what we feel, but that is when we need to be very careful or else we will speak satan’s words instead of God’s. If we do that, we have opened up a door for the devil to come in and cause problems for us. satan will slip through the smallest of cracks. When the enemy comes against us, we need to run to Jesus Who understands what we feel like and what we are wanting to do and say. In Heb 4:15-16 is says: 15 For we do not have a High Priest Who is unable to understand and sympathize andhave a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities and liability to the assaults of temptation, but One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning. 16 Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it]. Heb 4:15 tells us that Jesus understands and sympathizes with us because He went through every kind of temptation, people were cruel to Him, called Him names, spit on Him, brutally beat Him and so much more, but He never sinned. He never gave into wrong thoughts and He was never unkind. We need to remember to keep our eyes on Him and trust Him. We need to praise and thank the Lord. As you give Him praise and thank Him, you will notice that you are not angry or upset. If the devil can upset you, then he steals your peace. Don’t let him! As my Pastor says: “tell the devil to shut up and get out of your face!”:) Don’t walk to Jesus, run to Jesus. In Ps 91:1 it says: 1 He who [a]dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the shadow of the Almighty [Whose power no foe can withstand]. I felt that I needed to write this today as I am going through a lot of different distractions, but I know that God’s word is true and that it never changes. He promises to go “through” with us, not leave us alone. Nothing is impossible with God. May God bless you. Distractions Sep 17 The devil loves to set us up to be upset.
