District mourns death of student; counseling services available The Gloversville Enlarged School District community is saddened by the recent death of Breeanna Williams, a seventh-grade student at Gloversville Middle School. A candlelight memorial in remembrance of Breeanna will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3 at 77 Prospect Ave. in Gloversville. Those attending are asked to bring a candle. “There is no greater tragedy than losing someone as young as Breeanna who had a lifetime of potential ahead of her. During the days and weeks ahead, the district will do all it can to support her family, fellow students and friends,” Gloversville Superintendent of Schools Michael B. Vanyo said. “Our sincere condolences and thoughts go out to Breeanna’s family, friends and the entire community.” Counseling services at the school will be made available as necessary and when classes resume on Monday, Jan. 5. Counseling resources also are available at The Family Counseling Center of Fulton County, 11-21 Broadway, Gloversville, by calling 725-4310. A student death is a difficult and challenging situation that can generate a high level of anxiety and distress in some students. Students may be affected by this tragedy even if he or she did not know Breeanna well. The district encourages parents and guardians to talk to their children about what has happened. Discussing thoughts and feelings about death is an important part of helping children work through their grief. Often in times like this, it’s common for rumors to spread. We encourage everyone to avoid engaging in speculation during this difficult time. If you have questions, concerns or information, the district encourages you to contact a building administrator directly.
