Disturbance at Cross Creek Mall (Fayetteville, NC) – On Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at approximately 4:15 am, a crowd gathered at one of the mall entrances between Sear’s and JCPenney in anticipation of the sale of a popular basketball shoe at Finish Line. An officer with the Fayetteville Police Department was working in an off-duty capacity at Cross Creek Mall when some members of the crowd became involved in an altercation. The officer retrieved a pepper spray canister from the trunk of his vehicle and deployed the spray into the crowd. Additional officers responded to the location and the altercation was brought under control. The Fayetteville Police Department will conduct an internal investigation of the Use of Force to ensure that all departmental policies and procedures were adhered to during the incident.
