Divergent. Watched it. Thoughts-spoilers: 1. Books and the movies are made for teen population and the fact that the last book of the trilogy will be made into two movies already makes me barf. 2. Veronica Roth wrote the book while on a winter break in college, I am guessing she was taking creative writing 101 together with Wester Civ 101 where she heard Platos ideas of division of the populace into rulers, soldiers and servants... the premise of this dystopian trilogy is loosely based on this idea. Themes: a. Platonic division of populace. The society is divided into 5 fractions according to their personality traits. b. Fractions is more important than the family.. blood thinker than water. Was also very interesting because I always debate with my friends whether family ties should be higher than the ideology (Pavlik Morozov snitches on his father and he gets killed by communists for being a kulak) c. Abnegation (the selfless) end up taking up guns, because the good needs to be armed. Also the movie showed how the society is trying to pressure the youth to choose what they want to be in life and never change it in meantime. Choose choose choose... make up your mind, find a place in the society! What if I dont want to choose? What is I am divergent? asks the protagonist played by Shaile Woodley. Who is no Jennifer Lawrence but was chosen well for the role. Sci-Fi fans who like the themes delivered to them in an easy to consume package should definitely see this film.
