Divide and conquer. Whenever invaders came to a new (for them) - TopicsExpress

Divide and conquer. Whenever invaders came to a new (for them) land in places such as the Americas or Africa, they were often outnumbered by the indigenous populations. Therefore, they had to resort to tactics to weaken the power of the native people. They used the concept of divide and conquer by pitting groups against each other, resulting in smaller, more manageable groups which were easier to conquer. Sometimes lies were made up to make one group resentful of another. In places like Rwanda, the newly arrived Belgians gave special favors to the Tutsi group that were denied to the Hutus, causing resentment to fester. Some people, like the Wolof of West Africa were split up, with some becoming part of Britains rule in Gambia, and others coming under French rule in Senegal. If France and England were to have a beef with each other, the Wolof would be caught in it. In todays world, many who share a common ancestry with the oppressed are living in the house of the oppressor, and feel that problems on the other side of the world, or even closer, do not affect them personally. They dont realize theyre also in the crosshairs of oppressors aim, just not an immediate priority, and will eventually be preyed upon as well. Whenever the odds seem to be insurmountable, divide and conquer will work, just like children playing on a seesaw (or teeter-totter as some call it). The ones being conquered will go from a high point to a low one, while the conqueror rises from low to high.
