Division 1A: Claremorris 0-9, Crossmolina 1-6 The Senior team got their league campaign off to an encouraging start this afternoon against Crossmolina in Cannon Gibbons Park. Heavy rain showers throughout the match on an already saturated pitch made it very difficult for the teams to play decent football. The best of the football was played in the first half and with the teams evenly matched the half time score was level at 0-4 each. Claremorris adjusted better to the deteriorating second half conditions stringing some nice passing moves together that resulted in scores. As the game entered the final minutes, Claremorris were 3 points ahead and looked like they would prevail but with players slipping and sliding everywhere and standing water all over the pitch it was inevitable that the poor conditions would have one last say on the game. After a couple of missed attempts to catch and the clear the ball in front of the Claremorris goal, the ball got caught up in the mud and a Crossmolina player reacted quickest and booted it to the back of the net. It was to be the last score of the game and brought the teams level for the first time since the half time break. Well done to the players and management on a good start to the league campaign.
