Division 3 Preview SAAFL© PEMBROKE Old Scholars upset come - TopicsExpress

Division 3 Preview SAAFL© PEMBROKE Old Scholars upset come from behind victory over the previously unbeaten Unley Mercedes Jets has further credentialed the fourth placed side. Unley’s defeat will give Seaton and Modbury hope to stake a claim for the minor premiership but the Jets have been dominant all season and this is only a minor setback on its road to ultimate success. That journey will continue in round 14 when Unley Mercedes take on struggling Plympton. Currently in seventh position, the Bulldogs must win to ensure its finals dream remain intact. Last week’s result was unfavourable for the Bulldogs and missed an opportunity to leapfrog Athelstone into sixth position. Prior to its loss to Pembroke the Jets had been flying along, however, they were caught off guard and underestimated the Kings prowess. They can ill afford to take a side like Plympton lightly who are desperate to sneak into the top 5. Old Ignatians and in form Pembroke Old Scholars clash for battle for fourth position. Iggies had a training run against Kilburn and recorded its first win in three weeks to restore team moral at the weekend. Buoyant by its win against Unley Mercedes, Pembroke must back up its solid performance against Old Ignatians to be considered as a genuine contender. Modbury escaped with a narrow 1 point win over Athelstone to cement a top 3 position, but did it the hard way. The Hawks flew out of the blocks to take an early lead into quarter time, but the Raggies responded to outscore Modbury for the remainder of the encounter only to fall short by the barest of margins. Responding against buoyant Mitcham is Modbury’s next challenge as their opponents brushed aside Plympton with ease at the weekend. Inspired by Ben Geytenbeek’s 5 goal performance, Mitcham was able to career away in the second half to record a comfortable victory. No match in Division three can be taken lightly as recent results have suggested and Modbury can ill afford to be complacent against the Hawks. A poor first term proved costly for Athelstone in its narrow 1 point defeat to Modbury. Another bad start against Seaton could further dent the Raggies resurgence and finals aspirations. Seaton was made to work for four quarters by relegation bound Salisbury at the weekend and escaped with an unconvincing 14 point win. Inconsistency has not been affiliated with the Ramblers all year but in recent weeks it has crept into its game and Athelstone may well cause an upset and push for a place in the top 5. Ninth placed Salisbury will be hoping to be rewarded for its good form in recent weeks when the Magpies travel to Kilburn. Strong performances against Mitcham and Seaton will restore some confidence amongst the playing on group on what has been a difficult year thus far. Salisbury will finally have something to celebrate though after its win against Kilburn.
