Divorce letter to False Ego Vrndavana, India My dear false ego, It has taken me quite some time to find the courage to write you this letter; and I realize that it may come to you as a surprise since we have been together for so long and we’ve been through so much. I know also that I’m the one who started this relationship in the first place, but I’ve changed. I now know that what we had was unhealthy: especially my depending on you to watch and appreciate every move that I made, and your telling me that I was great, wise, clever and so on, even when I wasn’t. The fact is, I’ve met someone who has changed my life by showing me how to serve Krsna who resides in my heart and who “grants contentment in exchange for even a shadow of devotion, who oversees the principles of righteousness, and who delivers the universe with His names”; by being true to Krsna, I’ll be fully happy and satisfied and will have no reason to embellish who I am or what I’ve done. I’m not only very confident about my new life and relationship, but I’m also very excited about it. I’m pretty sure that you know who it is I’ve met because you remarked about how much time I was spending reading His books. Please know that my decision is firm and therefore, I request you to make things easy on both of us by not contacting me anymore. I’ve taken the liberty to clear out your things and have put them neatly in boxes in the detached garage. Please come get them when I’m not home and kindly leave your key along with any copies of keys that you may have made. Please don’t contact me or write back to me. It will only make it worse. I suggest that we both make a clean break. I’m sure that you’ll find someone else. Good luck and goodbye forever, Vaisesika Dasa “O my Lord, there is no limit to the unwanted orders of lusty desires. Although I have rendered these desires so much service, they have not shown any mercy to me. I have not been ashamed to serve them, nor have I even desired to give them up. O my Lord, O head of the Yadu dynasty, recently, however, my intelligence has been awakened, and now I am giving them up. Due to transcendental intelligence, I now refuse to obey the unwanted orders of these desires, and I now come to You to surrender myself at Your fearless lotus feet. Kindly engage me in Your personal service and save me.” (Sri Caitanya-caritamrta Madhya-lila 22.16) Om Tat Sat Vaisesika Dasa hare krishna The greatest gift of God is when he puts us in a situation where we have no other alternative but to surrender to him utterly. Of course we always have alternatives we always have choice, but when Krsna puts us in a situation where we realize that all of our other alternatives except for Krsna are futile and hopeless and they cannot save me, that is his greatest benediction. Yasyaham anugrhnami harisye tad dhanam sanaih tato ‘dhanam tyajanty asya svajana duhkha duhkhitam’ Krsna says that the first installment of mercy I give to My devotee is I take away everything, so that the devotee has nothing else to turn to except Me and this is exactly what he is doing to Gajendra. He is taking away everything, so Gajendra has no where else to turn to except Krsna. And how much he is turning towards Krsna with such devotion which such dependence with such helpless feeling, like a baby crying out for its mother. Gajendra is offering prayers and chanting the names of Lord Hari. We talk about surrender, we hear about surrender, but do we really know what it means to surrender. That is why krsna puts the greatest of his devotees in situations where there is the greatest exhibition of real surrender. Because unless the great souls teach us by their examples, we will never understand what it really means, we will never take it seriously. It will go in one ear and out the other . So how and why Krsna deals with his devotees in such inconceivable ways is the compassion of Krsna towards the aspiring devotee, compassion and love to show us the way back home, back to Godhead .
