Diwali insights: 1) I dont like common core. 2) I dont like the NGSS. 3) I understand the importance of developing our students reading and writing skills. I get that but the science and the math classrooms should be really focused on teaching the science and math concepts. Facts: 1) I have seniors and juniors who do not know how to use a ruler and a protractor! 2) China graduates 250,000 engineers every year while the US graduates only about 45,000. The sadder part is that a lot of them cant find jobs because its being outsourced! Just ask the 5 Indian software engineers that we had dinner with. Math is hard. Physics is hard. I know that! I get that! We should do a better job in teaching our kids the value of perseverance. I just have to do my best to make sure that the kids in my classroom will make better bridges, buildings and develop a really good source of energy so I dont have to pay $4 per gallon for gas!
