Dl Byron My heart goes out to the ship builders and their families of Portsmouth. I was weaned by the Clyde, Ive Clyde-built and Clydesider in my blood. I know what it is to see an ending of your history. I know that this is part political, part financial, which in itself is also political. A few days ago a feckless man came to Glasgow and said, vote independence and the Clyde will close a few days later Portsmouth is to close, shipbuilding on the Clyde is to stay. Glasgow or Portsmouth, shipbuilding is a heavy industry that never appealed to those in the leafy suburbs. They forget that shipbuilders dont just make ships, they make men. A generation before, Jimmy Reid led the way and saved for a while, shipbuilding on the Clyde, they had a work in. We are not going to strike. We are not even having a sit-in strike. Nobody and nothing will come in and nothing will go out without our permission. And there will be no hooliganism, there will be no vandalism, there will be no bevvying, because the world is watching us. They fought with their labour. Its an insane state of affairs that an island nation that cant feed itself has 3 major shipbuilders, and sends its work abroad. Good luck brothers and sisters, look to what Jimmy taught and fight. liveleak/view?i=0b5_1281736401
