Do I understand it? No!!! Does it make me angry? Yes!!! But it - TopicsExpress

Do I understand it? No!!! Does it make me angry? Yes!!! But it also upsets me that so many people have no compassion for a tragic accident. My logical brain says how could you forget your baby in a car? It seems impossible! But then I think back to when mine were little and of a time when they were sleeping in their car seat and I made the decision to let them continue napping while I unloaded the groceries..knowing if I woke them up, I would need to make a bottle, change a diaper, bounce them on my lap to settle them down from being woken up mid nap, knowing that it would take me only 5 minutes to unload the groceries with them safely asleep. No, I never forgot to get them out afterward and yes I always left the car on while I did so...though I admit that was so the sudden silence once the radio was cut off wouldnt wake them, not because I was afraid I would forget them and the car would get too hot. But what if when carrying the groceries in the phone had rang and I got caught up in my mom telling me about her doctor appointment and then I needed to use the bathroom and ...and ...and... What if? Maybe instead of showing such contempt, we could as a community show a little compassion for what is a heartbreaking tragedy that these parents have to live with forever...a pain and punishment worse than anything the justice system could ever offer up. There are so many situations in our fast paced world that could, on just the wrong day, land any of us in a similar situation! I once drove half way to work with Braedon asleep in the backseat before I turned around to take him to the sitters...simply bc Rick typically took him in the mornings and I was rushed and thinking about a million other things on my drive and my car was on the autopilot of routine. My point is that maybe we should just be praying for this family instead of plastering vicious words on every news coverage comments section.
