Do It Yourself Treats- With all of the recalls (and) alerts lately on dog treats we thought wed do a DIY post to help those of you who want to make your own dog treats..... I am addicted to dehydrating and canning- and a few weeks ago a friend asked me if I had a recipe for Dried Sweet Potatoes for her fur baby---- These are super easy to make and the dogs LOVE them! If you dont have a dehydrator dont worry you can use your oven!!!!! And, the instructions below are actually (for the oven) - for those of you that do own a dehydrator you can convert and dehydrate in your dehydrator - it works fine (both) ways! Instructions- Preheat oven to lowest setting, meanwhile, slice the top off sweet potatoes to make for easier balancing when slicing. Carefully cut thick lengthwise slices of the sweet potato using a sharp knife, about 1/3 inch thick for larger chews (you can leave the skin on (or) you can peel the sweet potato before slicing- Your choice- you want these to be THICK so make sure that you are not slicing too thin- when dehydrating, the slices are going to lose the majority of their thickness. Grease you baking sheets with a SAFE product and arrange slices on flat surface of pans. Place pans on top racks inside oven and let them bake/ dehydrate -- This takes 6-8 hours (depending on how well you want these done) The crispier the better so I suggest closer to 8 hours - just keep an eye on them---
