Do You Make This Unhealthy Mistake Before You Travel? The - TopicsExpress

Do You Make This Unhealthy Mistake Before You Travel? The holidays are here. These days, the world seems so small because we can easily jump on a plane to visit family and friends. And while this is wonderful, it takes a toll on the body. We didn’t evolve with the ability to adapt to leaps in time. Our sleep-wake cycle carefully follows the sun. Major shifts in this cycle—like crossing several time zones in a matter of hours—interfere with our health. Recent studies tell us that jet lag throws a wrench into the inner ecosystem, upsetting the rhythm that our gut bacteria naturally follow. Over the long-term, this leads to issues with blood sugar and weight gain. But even if you only travel once in a blue moon, jet lag can still harm your mood, immune system, and gut health. When traveling, I recommend: 1. Gradually adjusting when you eat. Or don’t eat all. Grazing or snacking is a daytime cue to the bacteria living in your gut. 2. Taking plenty of fermented foods and probiotics along with you. They can offset the problems caused by jet lag. 3. Using fewer devices that have screens.
