Do animals have souls? I don’t doubt it for a minute. How can you look into the eyes of a puppy and not see a soul? How can you watch three kittens cavort playfully for hours and not accept the fact that they are enjoying life only as God can give it? Conversely, when you are walking in the wilderness and you hear the scream of an animal in unbearable pain, how could you not believe that animal shares the same love from God as the puppy and the kittens? That animal, whether it is a coyote, a skunk, a raccoon, a bear cub or a bobcat kitten, are screaming in pain because they stepped into one of man’s vilest inventions – the leghold trap. If they are lucky, someone will come along and mercifully put them out of their misery. More likely, the trap will hold them indefinitely until they are either dead or until they chew their own leg off to escape and then to slowly die by themselves in the wilderness, interminably crippled and resigned to a certain, slow death. What gives us the right to savagely end the life and destroy the soul of innocent creatures? Who came to the conclusion that some mindless twit will look better dressed in the bloody skin of a harmless animal? What segment of our society not only endorses such behavior but also believes it is justifiable? When you think of terrorists, you think of Neo-Nazis, the Aryan Nation, Al-Qaeda and others. However, no list of terrorists would be complete without including cockfighters, dogfighters, trappers, trophy hunters and others who abuse animals. Terrorism, whether against humans or animals is still terrorism. We all share the love and soul of God and any form of torture to anyone or anything else is terrorism in its worst form.
