Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15What harmony is there between Christ and Belialb ? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. Today, we had a friend come in and give a talk about marriage. He is a pastor and has been married for 27 years. His talk was named How to divorce proof a marriage and was given to a group of single people. He started his talk with saying, this is the right people to give this talk too. I agree, single people should know what they are getting into. He had 3 points that will basically make any marriage work and make it divorce proof. The first point is to have God as the center stone of your marriage. If you have God be the main focus of your own life and then you are able to find someone who feels the same way, then you will always make sure that your marriage stays strong with God in the middle. The example that he gave was a passage from the bible: Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. - Ecclesiastes 4:12. If you are one with God in your marriage than you can never be broken. God will always protect you from the evils of culture today. The 2nd point is to always, and I mean always be honest with each other. This goes hand in hand with having God in the middle of your relationship. How can you be honest with your spouse, but dishonest with your work? If you are able to be dishonest in any aspect of your life, then you are being dishonest with yourself, but more importantly, you are being dishonest with God. If you want God to be the center of your life together than you need to make sure that you place honesty as a priority in your marriage. The 3rd point is to be united in everything. This is also a super important part of a relationship. If you have God as the center point of your marriage, then a lot of the decisions that you make will be prayed about and God will reveal the answer. The fact that people in todays society are so selfish is what creates such a high rate of divorce. If people realized that marriage is about being one with each other and having God in the middle, then marriage would last and it would mean something. The initial bible verse in the beginning was given to us by the pastor to allow us to see what we should look for when looking for our significant other. If you are in a stage in your life where you are looking for the right person, make sure that you look in the right places. Why look for someone at a club and then want them to come to Church afterwards? Instead, just find someone that already has God in his or her heart. Dont allow yourself to be yoked with the wrong person because it will be that much harder to make that relationship work if you want a marriage that has God in the middle.
